The Smartpipe system is manufactured on-site as a continuous, non-bonded reinforced composite pipeline with a smooth internal surface for improved flow performance. Its flexible design enables long installations through existing pipeline or as a standalone pipeline with fewer excavations and less surface disruption.
Integrated fiber optic sensing provides continuous visibility into pipeline performance, while the corrosion-resistant composite structure delivers long-term reliability in demanding operating environments.
Smartpipe Performance Metrics
Corrosion Resistance
Smartpipe is engineered to withstand exposure to corrosive production environments, including carbon dioxide (CO₂), and aggressive chemicals commonly encountered in oil and gas operations. Unlike conventional steel pipelines that are susceptible to corrosion, Smartpipe’s composite construction provides long-term resistance to degradation while maintaining reliable performance in challenging service conditions.

How Smartpipe is Monitored
Pipeline rehabilitation and replacement technology with embedded fiber optic monitoring capabilities enable operators to track leak detection and any 3rd party intrusion or threat to the area around Smartpipe in real time.
The Need for a Practical Approach
Conventional liners have been used for decades to address lower-pressure pipeline repair and rehabilitation needs. As pipeline systems have aged and integrity challenges have become more complex, the industry has required solutions capable of operating at higher pressures, across longer distances, and in more demanding transmission applications.
Smartpipe represents the next step in that evolution. A high-performance, large-diameter reinforced thermoplastic pipe system that provides structural capability independent of the host pipeline. This enables high-pressure rehabilitation of aged assets with long continuous installation lengths, which can significantly reduce excavation, field welding, and minimizing right-of-way disruption compared with conventional replacement.
What Is Engineered RTP?
Smartpipe is a reinforced thermoplastic pipe (RTP) system designed for demanding pipeline applications. RTP combines a corrosion-resistant thermoplastic liner, a high-strength reinforcement layer, and a protective outer jacket to create a flexible pipeline delivering a pressure performance equal to or greater than steel.
RTP is ideal for corrosive applications due to its non-metallic core. It is also manufactured for high-pressure service in long, continuous lengths, reducing field welding, minimizing right-of-way disruption, and shortening construction schedules.
RTP is produced under the requirements set out in API Specification 15S – Spoolable Reinforced Plastic Line Pipe, the industry standard that establishes the technical framework for design, qualification, manufacturing, testing, and performance.
